King Charles: Earth does not belong to us
King Charles addressed Cop28 summit in Dubai on Friday, warning that the dangers of climate change ‘are no longer distant risks’.
In his speech, Charles said alarming tipping points were being reached and that he was greatly worried that we were ‘so dreadfully far off track’ in efforts to address the climate crisis.
Charles finished his address by saying: ‘The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth.”.
More than 130 world leaders are set to address the United Nations climate conference in Dubai over the next two days.
He called for real action in supporting vulnerable communities. Their lives had been “laid waste” by the effects of climate change. In providing solutions, Charles suggested utilising the private sector in order to mobilise trillions of dollars in critical funding. “As I’ve tried to say on many occasions, unless we rapidly repair and restore nature’s unique economy based on harmony and balance, which is our ultimate sustainer, our own economy and survivability will be in peril,” he said.
