The crowd overjoyed as they saw King Charles head in their direction fora surprise walkabout. Charles had just left attended an Easter service at Windsor Castle.
Many thrilled to see him as he joked and shook their hands. One royal fan leaned over to tell Charles: ‘Happy Easter your Majesty – keep going strong and never give in’.
Charles said “I’m doing my best”.
The monarch made his first major public appearance this morning since his cancer diagnosis was revealed in February.
Royal fans among the first to see the King since he announced he had cancer.
The smiling King was seen waving at well-wishers as he arrived for the annual Easter Mattins Service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Charles’ decision to attend the Easter Sunday service seen by those at the Palace as a good sign. Also responding well to treatment and may be ready to return to more public duties.
The King has been carrying out private duties, including hosting the Prime Minister and private audiences, but stepped back from public-facing events.
Prince and Princess of Wales were absent from today’s service as Kate continues treatment for her own cancer diagnosis, revealed just over a week ago.
Princess Kate said she is feeling “strong” and said she appreciates the support on offer from the British public.
