Sunak and Starmer clash over housing targets
PM: 2.2 million additional homes built under Tories
Starmer: PM scrapped housebuilding targets. Mortgage holders £2,900 a year poorer.
Labour leader says housebuilding is at the lowest level “since the war” – because Sunak “won’t stand up to his party”
Rishi Sunak says 2.2m homes have been built under the Conservatives, more than under Labour. And he says he promised to put local people in charge of local housing – and he has.
Sunak: “We have introduced a 95% mortgage guarantee scheme, first homes and shared ownership schemes to get people onto the housing ladder,” Sunak says.
Not a long argument between the two. The debate seemed to end fairly quickly.
