PM: Britain will play ‘leading role’ in securing peace
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said he feels ‘strongly’ that Ukrain’s future is “vital” for the UK’s national security.
PM says Russia is a ‘menace’ in in Britain’s waters and skies. It has carried out cyber attacks on the NHS, and conducted “assassination” attacks on our streets.
Starmer told MPs that President Donald Trump’s wish for peace is sincere. He welcomed the president’s continued commitment to that peace.

The prime minister announced “a number” of allies had signed up to a “coalition of the willing“. This alongside France’s President Emmanuel Macron, prepared to commit troops to the Ukrainian frontline in the event of a peace deal.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the meeting. 17 European leaders and Canadian premier Justin Trudeau discussed next steps in securing peace for Ukraine.
The Lancaster House summit in London comes after a televised press conference from the White House, where President Trump told Zelensky he was not grateful enough for US support.
