Gaia 3 discovers 2 billion stars – exploring the Milky Way – watch how it was done
ESA’s Gaia mission releases its new treasure trove of data about our home galaxy.
Astronomers describe strange ‘star quakes’, stellar DNA, asymmetric motions and other fascinating insights. All in this most detailed Milky Way survey to date.
Gaia’s latest major data release reveals new detail on nearly 2 billion stars. This provides the largest ever catalogue of information on stars in our galaxy.
The Gaia data release was marked by an event at Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd in Cornwall. Goonhilly is now able to directly receive Gaia data alongside counterpart European Space Agency (ESA) stations across Europe.
