William and Harry unveil Diana Statue

William and Harry unveil Diana Statue – they united for the ceremony

The Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex have united to unveil a statue of Diana, Princess of Wales. They said: “every day we wish she were still with us”.

William and Harry came together for the ceremony in Kensington Palace’s redesigned Sunken Garden.  It would have been their mother’s 60th birthday.

It was their first appearance together since the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in April.  Neither of them spoke publicly at the event.  But said in a statement:

“We remember her love, strength and character,” they said.

Also they hoped the statue would “be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy” and thanked “all those around the world who keep our mother’s memory alive”.

The two could be seen chatting as they walked to where the statue of their Mother stood.  It was a sad and sombre occasion.  But both admired the work of the designer.

Harry

Harry, who lives in the US, with his wife the Duchess of Sussex, and their two children arrived in the UK last week.  This was in order to complete his quarantine ahead of the unveiling.

Prince William and Prince Harry looked happy enough to be together.  They were in the garden where the statue stands.  Each brother talking with the designer and gardeners.  The statue has two children with it but they are not William and Harry.  It is meant to represent warmth and the human touch.  What are you thoughts on the statue?  Do you like it?  How does it come across?  Have the brothers done the right thing?

Harry and William were joined by some of Diana’s close family members.  Including brother, Earl Spencer, the statue’s creator Ian Rank-Broadley and Sunken Garden re-designer Pip Morrison.

The Queen and Prince Charles were not present.
