Shakespeare’s First Folio sells for $10m – to Boston buyer

William Shakespeare’s first folio sold for $9,978,000 and sets world auction record for any work of literature at Christie’s

It is one of the most important books in literary history. Shakespeare’s First Folio brings together 36 of the playwrights dramas. The book went under the hammer, online, at Christie’s in New York 24 April. It was estimated to fetch $4m to $6m. 

Stephan Loewentheil of the 19th-Century Rare Book and Photograph Shop in Boston, bought the folio within 6 minutes of it going to auction

The First Folio was exhibited by the Mills College in California. Shakespeare’s book was show at Christie’s in London.
