Christie’s The auctioneers. Christie’s collection of pop culture spanned 120 years ready for auctioned at the South Kensington sales room, London in June, 2013.
Topping the sale Elizabeth Taylor’s very first wedding dress. A James Bond unique watch found in a car boot sale not far from Pinewood. Also sheet music of a Bob Dylan unpublished song and an eye-patch worn by John Wayne in True Grit.
Liz Taylor’s wedding dress expected to sell for around £50,000 but it went under the hammer for £121,875. The dress one of the most popular items and bidding pretty intense. While the remainder of the pop culture items drew a lot of interest it was the wedding dress and the story behind who wore it that won the day.
The beautiful dress had been well cared-for and made of the softest of fabrics and fitted the Hollywood star to perfection. Alongside the stand where the wedding dress stood was a most beautiful picture of Liz Taylor which we believe was done by Andy Warhol.
Christie’s is known for its pop culture memorabilia from every decade of the past century. They manage to find the most authentic and are able to put them up for sale for the owners.
