PM: Will continue defensive action in the region / Iran’s approach is “becoming even more reckless”
Sir Keir Starmer updates MPs on the Middle East conflict for the first time since the US and Israel began their military action on Iran.
The Prime Minister speaks in the Commons after giving the US permission to use British military bases for “specific and limited defensive purposes”.
However, Sir Keir’s Government has defended its refusal to join American and Israeli attacks on Iran, with ministers claiming it was “not in the UK’s interests” to do so.
He is also facing pressure from the Left to condemn the attacks on Iran, which killed the country’s Supreme Leader, as a breach of international law.
