Prince Harry agrees settlement with News Group Newspapers

The owner of the Sun newspaper offers a “full and unequivocal apology” to Prince Harry for “serious intrusion” into his private life, and agrees to pay him substantial damages.

It settles a long-running legal battle between the prince and the newspaper group, moments before it was due to reach the High Court.

News Group Newspapers (NGN) also apologises for serious intrusion into the private life of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Prince Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne, calls it a “monumental victory” – and accuses current NGN executives of “obstructing justice”.

In April, the High Court heard that actor Hugh Grant had settled his case against NGN because of the risk of a £10 million legal bill if his case went to trial.

In a statement, News Group Newspapers said it offered a ‘full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex’ for ‘serious intrusion’ by The Sun and for phone hacking by private investigators working for the News of the World.
