Assisted Dying – MSPs reject the Bill
For more than a year, Scottish politicians have grappled with matters of life and death. Today they debated one of the most contested bills in the history of devolution.
Final vote in the Scottish Parliament on the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill:
69 to 57 against legalising assisted dying. One member abstained.
Liam McArthur, member of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, presented the Bill to the Scottish Parliament.
It was an emotional chamber with many of the MSPs almost in tears over the issues debated surrounding the Bill.
But it was not to be. When it came to the vote the Bill fell.
Final vote: 69 to 57 against legalising assisted dying. One member abstained.
