PM: He is proud – making life better for working families

Prime Minister: Fair choices in the Budget – politics always about making choices  – I am proud we scrapped two-child benefit limit – I understand tax rises make life harder for people

Starmer:  Britain is now back on track / In years ahead, you’ll see benefit of our approach.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expected to back his controversial budget after tax rises were widely criticised.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves refused to rule out coming back with more tax rises at next year’s Budget despite announcing a fresh £30bn raid.

The Chancellor said she risked paying a “huge price” if she ignored official forecasts after her Budget laid out plans to push up the tax burden to record levels.

There are accusations of the government being dishonest.
