The King declared the US and the UK to be “the closest of kin”. This as he praised the special relationship between the two countries during President Trump’s state visit to Britain.
On arrival Trump described Britain to reporters as “a very special place.”
US President Trump met King Charles and the Queen in Windsor Castle as part of his first full day of a second state visit.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump spent the night at Winfield House – the home of the US ambassador to the UK since 1955.
From a royal perspective, there is a genuine desire for the president to feel that this state visit has been special.
And it is the royal elements that will be key to him feeling that.
The King will be acting as chief diplomat today, putting the personal friendship between himself and the president front and centre.
It’s a wet and windy morning in Windsor.
Crowds have gathered in London to demonstrate against the arrival of Presiden tRump.
