Government wins appeal. Bid overturned requiring asylum seekers be removed from Epping hotel
Asylum seekers can stay at the hotel.
Court of appeal rules on whether to overturn temporary injunction blocking asylum seekers from Epping hotel.
The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex is at the centre of protests after two of its guests charged with sexual offences.
Epping Forest District Council last week won a bid at the High Court to block migrants from being housed at the hotel.
The temporary injunction meant that the building had to be cleared of its occupants by September 12.
It also caused a ripple effect across the UK as more councils launched bids to boot migrants out of hotels in their towns.
The council highlighted potential risks with the return to school of hundreds of children in the surrounding area. It argued that the asylum seekers’ human rights did not “trump” planning laws.
