Following their meeting President Donald Trump admitted that more was needed to reach a deal.

TRUMP: said there’s “no deal until there’s a deal”.  We didn’t get there but “progress made” a few points left including one significant one

PUTIN: “sincerely interested” in ending Ukraine war.  He and Trump: “many points agreed on” and reached an understanding on Ukraine. But calls on European nations not to “torpedo progress”.

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Alaska on August 15, focused on the U.S. president’s push to seal a ceasefire deal.

The meeting took place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.

“HIGH STAKES!!!” Trump posts on his Truth Social platform – the US president is raising expectations and the sense of drama.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is notably excluded from the talks, and has warned that decisions made in his absence will be meaningless.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with tens of thousands of soldiers killed on both sides.
