James Gunn tweeted that the death of his father was an influence on the screenplay. The film’s release date, July 11, 2025, was his father’s birthday.
Personal trainer, Paolo Mascitti confirmed that David Corenswet gained 40lbs of muscle prior to filming. “David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’4″ but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He probably went from 200lbs to 240lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he continues to tone up.”
The inclusion of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner marks the seventh time that Fillion has appeared in a film directed by James Gunn, continuing the tradition of the actor making an appearance in every one of Gunn’s films, owing to the pair’s longtime friendship.
Nicholas Hoult, Andrew Richardson and Tom Brittney screen-tested for the role of Clark Kent / Superman before David Corenswet was cast. Hoult was ultimately cast as Lex Luthor.
