King Adopts One Millionth Hen – names the feathered friend Henrietta
King Adopts One Millionth Hen
HM, King Charles adopted the British Hen Welfare Trust’s one millionth hen. The King named the latest addition to the royal household, Henrietta.
The King decided to be the hen’s adoptive guardian after personally asked if Charles wanted the British Hen Welfare Trust’s millionth rehomed bird.
The hen later rehomed at Highgrove Gardens with 30 other rescue chickens. Henrietta journeyed to the new residence in a hand-crafted carrier. This created by award-winning British fashion designer Lulu Guinness, British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT) revealed.
Founder and CEO of the charity Jane Howorth said: “We’re thrilled that one million hens have been adopted and extremely pleased that Henrietta and 30 feathered friends heading to Highgrove Gardens.”
The charity works in the UK and France to rehome some of the millions of hens routinely slaughtered after reaching what’s deemed peak egg-laying age.
The King’s support for farming and passion for conservation documented. But with the addition of Henrietta and 30 feathered friends, the King’s Gloucestershire residence just got a little more egg-ceptional.
