Olly Alexander UK’s Eurovision entrant
Popstar Olly Alexander represents the UK at the 2024 contest with his song DIZZY.
Olly delivered his first performance LIVE, which featured an upside-down locker room staging of Dizzy. Inside with him shirtless dancers and raunchy moves.
With the help of some clever camera work, Olly and his dancers appeared to be spinning around and walking on the ceiling in the jam-packed performance.
Fans went wild for the staging.
The microphone unit fell from his body but Olly managed to hold it in place during the song.
The former Years and Years frontman is hoping to improve on the UK’s disappointing performance in 2023. This when Mae Muller came second to last.
Alexander is well-known around Europe for hits including Desire, King and If You’re Over Me.
Olly also a Bafta-nominated actor, having played the lead role in Channel 4’s hard-hitting Aids drama It’s A Sin.
The UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy – the big five. The countries have already made the final along with Sweden’s contestant Marcus & Martinus.
It was the first time the UK – already through to the finals – performed in a semi-final.
Alexander had cameras rotated to make it feel as if he and the dancers were spinning.
Eurovision fans shared concern for what they described Olly’s ‘shaky vocals’.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 grand final takes place on Saturday 11 May. The running order to be determined once the finalists have been announced.
