Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire today took home the BAFTA TV Award for Leading Actress for the second time.

She beat the likes of Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us).  Also Sharon Horgan (Best Interests) and Helena Bonham Carter (Nolly) to bag the final award of the evening.

Sarah was clearly overwhelmed by her accolade.  She said “I feel very. very privileged to have been surrounded by these brilliant actors,” she says in her acceptance speech.

The actor scooped the Leading Actress Award for her iconic role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the BBC’s Happy Valley.   The series followed the dramas of policing in Yorkshire.

In Happy Valley, Lancashire plays divorced police officer Catherine Cawood, who plays a long-running game of cat-and-mouse with criminal Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton). The third and final season launched in the UK early last year, seven years after the first went out.

She  broke down on stage accepting the award.

The award Lancashire’s third BAFTA TV Award.  It comes after a Best Actress win for Happy Valley in 2017 and Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for Last Tango in Halifax. Sarah nominated for Best Actress on two other occasions.

The ceremony at Royal Festival Hall filled with many beautiful, glammed up attendees for the presentation night.
