Prince Andrew Interview – Categorically denies sex claims
Prince Andrew Interview
15 February 2022 – Prince Andrew settled a civil sexual assault case brought against him in the US by Virginia Giuffre.
A letter filed to the US district court on Tuesday said the Duke and Ms Giuffre had reached an out-of-court settlement.
It said the duke would pay an undisclosed sum to Ms Giuffre.
The prospect of Prince Andrew facing a court hearing in New York averted by the settlement, but the situation a huge problem for the Royal Family. Action followed and Prince Andrew swiftly removed from all official public roles.
A statement included with the letter read: “The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms Giuffre’s receipt of the settlement (the sum of which not being disclosed)”.
It said the Duke would make a “substantial donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights”.
The Duke of York “categorically” denied having any sexual contact with an American woman, who says forced to have sex with him at age 17.
Interview
Answering questions about the Prince’s links to convicted the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in a BBC interview, Prince Andrew said the alleged incidents “never happened”.
Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s accusers, claimed she was forced to have sex with the Prince three times.
However, the Prince spoke of being at home with the children on one of the occasions.
Prince Andrew, the Queen’s third child, faced questions for several months over his ties to Epstein. He’s a 66-year-old American financier who took his own life while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
The Prince spoke to BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis in an interview recorded at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.
It went to air on BBC Two at 21:00 GMT on Saturday 16 November 2019.
Did you see the programme? What did you think? The Prince seemed to be forthcoming about his movements but do you believe him? Was the Prince questioned closely enough? Should other questions have been asked? Should Prince Andrew give evidence? Is the Prince being honest about his connectection with Giuffre?
Giuffre
April 26 2025: Ms Virgina Giuffre – born in the US – died by suicide at her farm in Western Australia aged 41, her family said.
The photo of her and Prince Andrew, taken in London in 2001, became emblematic of the royal’s entanglement with Epstein and central to his disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019.
The origins of the picture remain uncertain. But Ms Giuffre’s death adds another layer to the mystery of what must have inadvertently become one of the most widely viewed photos in royal history.
