Aberdeen Food Bank – Demands Soar

Aberdeen Food Bank has seen a massive demand in food hand-outs in 2015. Distributed food parcels in 2014 totalled 10 thousand, last year they soared to 30 thousand.

The Aberdeen Food Banks partnership co-ordinates the food and blames the government’s new Universal credit for the increase as well as the huge loss of jobs in the Oil and Gas industries.

High earners in the prosperous city are now in queues for benefits help. The partnership is led by Community Food Initiatives North East, which is struggling to fund the food banks.
