Green Party wins Gorton and Denton by-election

Hannah Spencer’s success the most dominant result in England.

The Greens’ by-election win in Gorton and Denton is a “seismic” victory, the party’s leader Zack Polanski says.  “Torn the roof off British politics”.

Hannah Spencer, a 34-year-old plumber, says voters “rejected hate and embraced hope” as she pledges to end local fly-tipping and introduce rent controls.

Hannah Spencer becomes Green Party’s fifth MP.
