LIVE | Anas Sarwar calls on Keir Starmer to RESIGN as Prime Minister
Anas Sarwar’s calls for Keir Starmer to step down as Prime Minister.
“The distraction needs to end and the leadership in downing Street has to change” Sarwar tells a news conference.
Sarwar spent five years working as a dentist in Paisley near Glasgow before standing to be an MP in Westminster.
He will become highest profile Labour politician to call for Starmer resignation.
Senior figures in the party have privately been saying that their chances in May’s Scottish eledtions would be improved if Starmer left.
Earlier, Starmer’s director of communications Tim Allan resigned, a day after the PM’s chief of staff also quit.
Tory. leader, Meki Badenoch says Starmer has lost control of his party, and claims the country is “not being governed”.
The Prime Minister “cannot survive this amount of chaos” as calls for his resignation grow, says Blackley and Middleton South MP Graham Stringer.
The Labour MP told BBC Radio 4’s World at One that, whilst he personallyt does not want Keir Starmer to resign, he believes it is “increasingly difficult” for the PM to maintain his position.
