Keir Starmer: it has been a very tragic weekend – victims ‘bright, joyful and talented’

The Prime Minister described the shooting at a Jewish event at Bondi Beach in Sydney an “appalling antisemitic terror attack”.

Two gunmen targeted a Hanukkah celebration at Archer Park next to the beach. It happened on the first day of the Jewish festival of lights on Sunday evening. They were a father and son.

Speaking in Parliament Starmer condemned the Bondi attacks: “These incidents are CHILLINGLY focused”.

He added: “I want to reassure our Jewish communities here in the United Kingdom that we will take every step that we can, use all of our powers to make sure they’re safe and secure, as they should be in the United Kingdom.”
