LIVE: Home Secretary announces sweeping immigration reforms
The Home Secretary is expected to unveil a raft of measures later today. This to ramp up removals of foreign criminals and make refugee status temporary and subject to regular review, with some facing the prospect of being removed as soon as their home countries are deemed safe.
Under the plans, most will have to wait 20 years to apply to settle permanently, with deportations sped up when claims are rejected.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is also threatening to stop granting visas to people. These from three African countries if their governments don’t co-operate more on deportations
