Remember Monday – What The Hell Just Happened?

Remember Monday will represent United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with the song What The Hell Just Happened? 🇬🇧 #Eurovision2025

A country trio at Eurovision? Hell yeah, why not? The UK has nothing to lose. Whatever we’ve done since Katrina and the Waves won in 1997 for Love Shine a Light has not been working.

Slapping on a stetson worked for Beyoncé, so perhaps it can help us achieve the apparently impossible. Perhaps more relevantly — although this is debatable at Eurovision — Remember Monday can really sing.

Although they bill themselves as country-pop, their competition song What the Hell Just Happened? actually doesn’t really contain much country, unless you count the rather wonderful three-part harmonies.

That Queen-meets-Abba maximalism of the opening section has shades of The Last Dinner Party, before an audacious tonal shift to urgent pop that’s worthy of Girls Aloud in their pomp, and cries of “Freedom!” that bring to mind George Michael.

The opening verse goes: “Someone lost a shoe/ I’m still in last night’s make-up/ I’m waking up like, ‘What’s this new tattoo?’/ Room is spinning, ears are ringing.”
