Christie’s in London to auction a selection of artefacts from the Barry Humphries (1934 – 2023) collection, 13th February 2025.
The world renowned Australian performer started collecting in his teens. He his best known for his character Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson. Over more than half a century built a collection driven by knowledge, passion and curiosity.
The collection has approximately 250 lots, and Christie’s estimates rage from £200 – £300,000.
Highlight of the collection is a special work from Australian painter Charles Conder – Sand Dune, Ambleteuse. It could fetch between £200,000 and £300,000.

Humpries’s characters brought him international fame. Originally conceived as a dowdy Moonee Ponds housewife who caracatured Australian suburban lifestyle, the Dame Edna Everage character developed into a sature of stardom.
