PMQs Starmer accuses Tories of being economic vandals
Prime Minister was tackled by Kemi Badenoch over the recent budget decisions and asks if another planned.
Sir Keir Starmer responded by saying Tories are “economic vandals” and “fantasists”.
Kemi Badenoch said she met business owners on Friday. One said his business will not exist in four years time because of the government’s policies.
Starmer says the global economy is experiencing volatility. And Labour inherited a £22bn black hole, he says.
He refuses to rule out further tax rises.
Badenoch questions Starmer on Tulip Siddiq. But the PM does not reply directly to the question.
Badenoch: PM hired a ‘fraudster” as City Minister.
It comes a day after Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq resigned over an anti-corruption investigation in Bangladesh, which she has been named in but denies any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has pledged to go “further and faster” to improve economic growth. This after market turbulence saw the value of the pound dip and government borrowing costs rise
The Conservatives branded market woes “a crisis made in Downing Street”, blaming October’s Budget, and called out Reeves for a recent trip she made to China.
All this comes after Starmer unveiled plans on Monday to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence to kickstart growth and rejuvenate public services.
