Artificial Intelligence – online safety laws
Peter Kyle, Science and Technology Secretary, questioned about striking the right balance on artificial intelligence and regulating them.
Laura Kuenssberg pointed out there was mounting criticism about the loopholes in the Online Safety Act. Kyle admitted current legislation “unsatisfactory”.
Kyle blames the previous government, saying the law passed before he took office.
However, he said the law was already passed when he took office and placed the blame on the previous government for removing regulation of legal but harmful content.
He stresses “very good powers coming through” and reiterates that online platforms must ensure content is age-appropriate. If not sanctions in p that are “most strident in the world”, he says.
Kuenssberg: With, the new rules put forward there are no specific measures about self-harm content Kuenssberg challenged. There are no specific measures about live streaming, its unclear about chatbot which is becoming a huge thing online.
There’s nothing around private messages. Do you really think that the new rules match the problems? Some campaigner think they fall far short.
