Huw Edwards: 6 month suspended sentence
Ex-BBC news presenter Huw Edwards is placed on the sex offenders’ register for seven years. Also must complete a rehabilitation programme.
Judge tells Edwards his “reputation is now in tatters”.
Edwards barrister says the former broadcaster was “truly sorry” for “repugnant” images.
The sentencing hearing was told Edwards paid another man Alex Williams hundreds of pounds for gifts and presents in exchange for the images.
Prosecutor says Huw paid up t0 £1500 for images.
Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent pictures of children.
The veteran broadcaster, 63, admitted “making” indecent photographs. This after sent 41 illegal images by convicted paedophile Alex Williams over WhatsApp.
The estimated age of the children in most pictures between 13 and 15, but one aged between seven and nine.
Until last year, Edwards was one of the main presenters on BBC One’s News at Ten and fronted coverage of major national events
Edwards paid between £475,000-£479,999 from April 2023 to April 2024, when he resigned.
The BBC asked Edwards to hand back the salary he earned after being arrested last November. So far this has not happened
Today’s sentencing a massive fall from grace for one of the most familiar and respected faces on British TV.
