PM – cut reliance on foreign workers – talks Joe Biden standing down as US President
PM – cut reliance on foreign workers
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer speaks at Farnborough International Airshow.
Following the speech Sir Keir spoke with journalists. Some asked about President Joe Biden and his decision to stand down, Starmer said he will work with anyone chosen as President by the people of the United States.
A growing number of senior Democrat politicians and party backers are supporting Kamala Harris to be the party’s presidential candidate, after Joe Biden quit the race.
President Biden withdrew from November’s election on Sunday. This as he faced increasing calls to step aside since his TV debate against Donald Trump.
He has endorsed Harris, who says she intends to “earn and win” the nomination.
Journalists also asked the Prime Minister about the launch of a new plan to tackle the UK’s “fragmented and broken” skills training system.
The set up of Skills England, which was included in Labour’s manifesto, is designed to ensure training provision is aligned with the needs of the economy.
It brings together central and local government. Also businesses, trade unions and training providers to better understand the nation’s “skills gap”.
