Keir Starmer holds his first news conference addressing the nation as Prime Minister.

The new Prime Minister has pledged to get to work “immediately”.

His first role appoint his cabinet.  The top team include Angela Rayner, as deputy and Rachel Reeves. She is the first female Chancellor.

Also on the team is Yvette Cooper and Ed Miliband.

A cabinet meeting is first thing then a press conference to speak to the media and let the nation now what is about to happen.

Labour won a landslide that rivals the all-time best it achieved under Tony Blair in 1997.

Politicians have congratulated Prime Minister Keir Starmer on a “remarkable”, “convincing” and “resounding” win for Labour – with one world leader signing off their message: “Let’s go get it my friend.”

Meanwhile Rishi Sunak has said he will stay on as Conservative leader for now until plans are in place to choose his successor
