Andy Murray – farewell tennis – Wimbledon and Olympics
Latest 23 July | Sir Andy Murray to retire after Paris Olympics.
The Wimbledon champion was in tears as he said goodbye to centre court and Wimbledon.
He spoke of how he would like to continue playing but injuries would not allow it.
Andy Murray had just completed a doubles match with his brother Jamie. Both played together so well but unfortunately did not win.
The crowd adored Murray and thoroughly enjoyed watching the doubles.
Talking to Sue Barker he admitted the time was right for him to finish.
After a 19-year career that has included three grand slam triumphs, Andy plans to retire from professional tennis at the end of this summer. After this defeat, the All England Club held a presentation to commemorate his career. Numerous former champions and current players stood by the court to recognise Andy, including Novak Djokovic, Tim Henman, Iga Swiatek, John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova.
Officially Sir Andrew Barron Murray OBE is a British professional tennis player. He was ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals for 41 weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 in 2016.
