England had extra-time, and Slovakia’s heads bowed. The most famous victory in their history, a shock to rival England’s Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland, had been ripped away.
Slovakia seemed still in shock when the additional 30 minutes began and immediately conceded a free kick, which Cole Palmer spun into their box.
England Captain – “When it is that late in the game and 1-0 down in knockout football you need to find a way to claw yourself out of the hole you were in. It is not easy to get through in any stage and to get to a quarter-final is very pleasing. Hopefully we can use the momentum and take it forward now.”
