Crooked House pub must be rebuilt

The Crooked House in Himley, near Dudley in the West Midlands, must be restored.  And to its former glory within three years.

Local council ordered the rebuild while police continue to investigate suspected arson.

The owners of “Britain’s wonkiest pub” given order to rebuild the building brick by brick.  This after building destroyed in a fire and unlawfully demolished.

Heritage campaigners hailed decision a “massive” victory to restore the 18th-century pub.

The notice compels them to recreated the building “back to what it was prior to the fire”.

Jubilant locals talk The Times they had salvaged its original bricks, doors and even the bar’s bell from the debris.

Staffordshire police are investigating the blaze.  It gutted the famous inn last August (2023). Bulldozers reduced it to a rubble hours later.  Five men and one woman arrested and released on bail so far.
