New: Sir Jeffrey Donaldson charged with historical sexual offences has quit as Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader, 29 March.

A 57-year-old woman also charged with aiding and abetting in connection with the alleged offences.

They are due to appear in court next month.

The Democratic Unionist Party agrees a deal to restore power-sharing to Northern Ireland.  This subject to the UK Government tabling and passing new legislative measures .

Party leader Sir Jefrey Donaldson announced that the DUP had backed a deal with Westminster aimed at addressing its concerns over post-Brexit trade.

He said it is “a good outcome” for Northern Ireland as it provides a basis for the return – subject tonew legislation being passed in the UK Parliament.

Northern Ireland Secretary, Chris Heaton-Harris welcomed the step and says the UK government will stick to its “binding commitments”.

The breakthrough came after a dramatic, hours-long meeting of the party’s executive plagued by security issues, with a protest taking place outside.
