First ever Alpine gold for GB at Youth Winter Olympics
Zak Carrick-Smith, 16, won Great-Britain’s first ever skiing medal at a Winter Olympic event. Zak won gold in the Men’s Combined Slalom at the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024.
Carrick-Smith topped the podium in Gangwon, South Korea, ahead of Swedish pair Alexander Ax Swartz, silver, and Liam Liljenborg, bronze.
Zak’s mum, Emma Carrick-Anderson, competed in alpine skiing for Great Britain at four Winter Games between 1992 and 2002.
Carrick-Smith produced a sensational slalom run to make up 26 places with an aggregate time of 1:49.46.
Gangwon 2024 runs until 1 February.
