Northern Ireland Secretary condemns knife attack Belfast

In the House of Commons, Gavin Robinson MP for Belfast East, of the Democratic Unionist Party, delivered an urgent questions of the violent attack in Belfast.

Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Hilary Benn MP, praised the bravery of passers-by who he said at “immense risk” they intervened to rescue the victim.

Police in Northern Ireland have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder and declared a critical incident after a stabbing in Belfast.

The suspect was in custody and  believed to be Sudanese.  The victim was in a serious condition in hospital after the attack on Monday night that prompted widespread shock and condemnation.

Keir Starmer called the attack horrific and sickening.

Conservatives have demanded “total transparency” on the immigration status of a man arrested.
