King Charles meets Pope Leo in historic visit – live
The King and the Pope to pray together in the Cistine Chapel in the Vatican this afternoon in a show of religious unity.
It’s the first time since the Church of England broke away from Catholicism 500 years ago that a British Monarch and Pope seen in joint prayer.
The Bishop of Liverpool, David Walker, says it will be a step change.
King Charles to receive a Papal knighthood and the King will make Pope Leo a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath.
The King to take an honorary, spiritual title associated with the church, becoming what’s called a “royal confrater”. This as part of the church’s confraternity. It’s a recognition of his work building links between the Church of England and the Catholic Church.
The King will become the first British monarch to pray with a pope since the 16th Century – we’ll have live coverage from inside the Vatican
