PMQs: Keir Starmer proud of Rayner
The Prime Minister defended his depute saying he ‘proud’ to be sitting beside a working class woman who became a deputy PM.
He was responding to Kemi Badenoch’s question asking why Rayner was still in office.
Badenoch also said there is a crisis for the Cabinet and also for the country and when was government spending last this high?
Starmer said Rayner had explained her circumstance in detail. And she had asked the court to lif a confidentiality relatin gto her son.
Britain’s long-term borrowing costs have hit a 27-year high as economists warn that further tax rises will damage economic growth.
The interest rate on 30-year government debt rose to 5.72 per cent, the highest level since 1998. The pound also fell by more than 1 per cent against the dollar on Tuesday.
While the cost of government borrowing is rising around the world, British borrowing costs have been hit particularly hard as a result of persistent inflation and reduced demand from final-salary pension schemes.
