Prince Harry loses legal challenge over police protection in UK

The Duke of Sussex lost a legal challenge over the level of taxpayer-funded security he’s entitled to while in the UK.  This allowed the government to proceed with a “bespoke”, and cheaper, level of protection for his family.

Three senior judges at the court of appeal rejected Prince Harry’s claim of “inferior treatment”.  Also that Harry’s safety and life “at stake” after a change in security arrangements.  This happened when Harry stepped down as a working royal and moved abroad.

Harry had challenged the dismissal of his high court claim against the Home Office.  This over the decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, known as Ravec that Harry should receive a different degree of protection when in the country.

In an interview with the BBC Prince Harry said “he would love reconcilliaton” with the Royal Family and is “devastated” at losing legal the challenge over his security.

The Home Office said: “We are pleased that the court has found in favour of the government’s position in this case.

“The UK government’s protection security system is rigorous and proportionate.  It is our long-standing-policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements.  Doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”
