NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 are back on earth
The four members of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission—NASA astronauts Nick Hague, Suni Williams, Butch Wilmore, and cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov splashed down off coast of Florida at about 10:00pm UK time.
They undocked from the International Space Station where they had been for some months and headed for earth.
Following the splashdown, crews went to the retrieve the Dragon and its crew in a process scheduled to take approximately one hour.
Crew 9 has ended its multi-month mission in low Earth orbit.
NASA and SpaceX met on Sunday to assess weather and splashdown conditions off Florida’s coast for the return of the agency’s Crew-9 mission from the International Space Station.
NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore had an extended nine month stay on the International Space Station.
Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore left Earth in June 2024 for an eight-day mission to test Boeing Starliner’s capsule.
Their original eight day mission prolonged due to thruster issues and helium leaks on Boeing’s Starliner.
