Coe a candidate to be new IOC president
On January 30, 2025, seven IOC Presidential candidates presented their programmes to the full IOC membership at Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Among them World Athletics president Lord Coe. He wants to succeed Thomas Bach.
After these presentations, each candidate given the opportunity to take part in a media interaction.
The election for the IOC presidency takes place during the 144th IOC Session. This from 18 to 21 March 2025 in Greece.
Current president, Thomas Back announced at the Paris Olympics he intended to stand down after the end of his second term this year.
Britain’s two-time Olympic 1500m champion Coe faces cpompetition from Spaniard Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, France’s David Lappartient, Zimbabwean Kirsty Coventry. Also Japan’s Morinari Watanabe, Swede Johan Eliasch and Prince Feisal al Hussein of Jordan.
Coventry, a seen-time Olympic swimming medalist, is bidding to become the first womanand African to head the IOC.
German lawyer Bach has been in charge since 2013.
