An iconic pop star returns after decades missing.
A young writer travels to the remote compound of a legendary pop star who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago. Surrounded by a cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she soon finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan.
Director – Mark Anthony Green
Writer – Mark Anthony Green
Stars – Ayo Edebiri – John Malkovich – Juliette Lewis
Guardian review extract –
The pop star is Alfred Moretti (deliciously played by John Malkovich), who retreated from the public eye decades ago and has now returned with what he claims will be the greated album ever made.
It’s frustrating to see yet another first-time film-maker overstack their place in such a way that feels like the product of impressive ambition and more emptuy bravado. Like may films and shows it’s monotonously following, there’s a snappy sellable pitch but again, there’s just no thought-out follow-through and, given how bad this partiular example is and is being received, one hopes we’re nearing the end of this torturous cycle.
