Keir Starmer – tackling small boats gangs
Migrant smugglers will be fast-tracked through the courts like the summer rioters. This to happen under a crackdown to curb Channel crossings to be announced by Sir Keir Starmer.
The Prime Minister to order the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to speed up charges for people smugglers. The change is part of a £150 million package of measures to tackle the small boat crisis.
The cash boost takes funding for the UK’s new Border Security Command (BSC) to a total of £150m for new tech hubs. Also extra enforcement, intelligence and prosecution staff.
Downing Street said Sir Keir wanted to replicate efforts earlier this year that brought all parts of Government together. To swiftly deliver justice after the “thuggery” seen during the riots. At the time they sparked the killing of three young girls in Southport in July.
In a speech to the Interpol general assembly in Glasgow, Sir Keir called on global leaders to “wake up to the severity” of the challenge smuggling presents to border security.
