Phillip Schofield: Cast Away talks ‘anguish’ in coming out

Former TV host, Phillip Schofield has opened up on the “anguish” he experienced coming out as gay later in life.  This during a first look clip at the new TV appearance on Cast Away.

The former This Morning host, left on a desert island with just a camera, spoke of how “liberating” and “freeing” the experience is for many – however, the circumstances of his own were different.

Schofield was axed from his daytime TV gigs after an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger colleague became public.

He addresses it in the show, adding: “I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?”

On Monday,30 September, Schofield appears on primetime screens for the first time in 16 months, fronting Channel 5’s latest iteration of Cast Away. The three-part programme will follow Schofield as he battles to survive on an island off the coast of Madagascar for nearly two weeks. The show largely self-shot by Schofield.
