Scotland stunned – out of Euros – says sorry – to fans
Their hearts were broken. Scotland out of Euro 2024 after a brutal and agonising end to a painful night against Hungary.
Scotland 0 Hungary 1: Kevin Csoboth’s winner in the tenth minute of stoppage time ensured Steve Clarke’s side would not progress from Euro 2024 group stage.
At the end, Steve Clarke stood at the edge of his technical area for an age, like a man surveying a wreckage – which in a way it was.
Scotland’s desperation was acute.
At one stage Scotland appealed for a penalty after Orban’s challenge on Armstrong, but the referee waved play on.
Hungary were no great shakes. The Scotland of March to September last year would probably have found a way of putting them away.
They craved the victory. It could have probably taken them into the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
Could Scotland have done it? Should they have won? Of course but they didn’t leaving the heartbroken. The party is over and fans heading for home.
