Japan’s space agency says it appears to have successfully landed its spacecraft, dubbed “Moon Sniper”, on the Moon.
The Japanese Space Agency has connected with the spacecraft but but only by battery. They say the electrial system doesn’t appear to be operational.
The moon landing operation by the SLIM spacecraft live-streamed from JAXA’s Sagamihara Campus.
This makes Japan only the fifth country to land on the Moon after the US, the former Soviet Union, China and India.
Speakers: Dr. Hiroshi YAMAKAWA, President, JAXA Dr. Hitoshi KUNINAKA, Director General, ISAS/JAXA Dr. Shinichiro SAKAI, Project Manager, SLIM Project Team, ISAS/JAXA (Professor, Department of Spacecraft Enginnering, ISAS/JAXA) *Sakai’s appearance depends on the operational status of SLIM.
The Japanese spacecraft aimed to land within 100m (328ft) of a location near the Shioli crater, on the near side of the Moon
