Covid Inquiry – ‘too little too late’ – 23 thousand lives could have been saved
Covid Inquiry – ‘too little too late’
Report: Response too little, too late
Report: Earlier lockdown would have saved 23,000 lives in England
Not enough done to protect the vulnerable.
UK’s governments were not prepared for lockdown impact.
Decision making in Northern Ireland was ‘chaotic’.
Lady Hallett said that if “stringent restrictions” put in place before March 16, 2020, there might have been no need for a lockdown.
The Chair of the UK Covid-19 Public Inquiry, The Rt Hon the Baroness Hallett DBE, made this statement following the publication of her second report.
This report concerns the core political and administrative decision-making across the UK in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It covers everything from lockdown timings and restrictions, to alleged rule-breaking during the pandemic.
The report follows months of hearings, which took evidence from major political and scientific figures. This included former-PM Boris Johnson, former-Health Secretary Matt Hancock, and England’s Chief Medical Officer Sir Chris Whitty.
