LIVE: Worlds largest land crane installs roof on UK nuclear power station
The world’s largest land crane, ‘Big Carl,’ lifted the 245-ton domed roof onto the reactor building at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset, England.
Hinkley Point C, this week broadcast a major moment in its construction – the lifting of a 245-tonne steel dome onto the second reactor building.
The dome closes the building allowing the installation of the nuclear reactor and equipment.
Hinkley Point C has kicked off an epic week of engineering by installing the huge rotating “polar” crane in the second reactor building, days before its dome is due to be lifted into place.
At Hinkley Point C they are building two new nuclear reactors. The first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in Britain providing zero-carbon electricity for around six million homes.
